Kathak is a Major classical dance form of India. The word comes from a Sanskrit word “Kathakar”,which means a storyteller. Patronized by art loving medieval rulers, Kathak artists worked at refining its dramatic and rhythmic aspects delighting elite audiences. Kathak combines the spiritual fervour of Hindu temple with opulent Mughal and Rajput courts. Jaipur, Benaras and Lucknow are the 3 main schools or gharanas of Kathak.
